Bluegrass Industrial Minerals, LLC, formed in March 2004 as an affiliate to L.R. Chapman, Inc., operating in Lewisport, Kentucky, produces silica sand. This silica sand is sub-angular whole grain sand and will be naturally mined from the proven 15 million ton reserve. The raw material is hauled by articulating truck to the plant facility to undergo various degrees of washing, scrubbing, magnetic separation, screening, and sizing. It is then dried in a fluid bed dryer/cooler.
Silica sand can be used to produce container glass, flat glass, foundry molds, certain fiberglass manufacturing, golf bunkers and topdressing, and landscaping.
